Before you know it, the Prospect League baseball season will be starting up. For the Hannibal Cavemen it will be season number seven as they open up play at Springfield on May 27. I took the opportunity to ask the Hannibal Cavemen's Marketing Director Deron Johnson a few questions about the upcoming season.

What year did the Caveman play their first game ever?

The Cavemen played their first game in 2009.

What are the names of all the previous field managers?

Jay Hemond was the manager from 2009-2014. Greg McVey will be the General Manager and Field Manager in 2015.

Who are the owners?

Missouri businessman Rick DeStefane and California businessman Bob Hemond.

Are there any former Cavemen players who are current or past Major Leaguers?

Not yet! There are some very good MLB prospects that are former Cavemen including pitcher Mark Sappington in the Anaheim Angels organization and pitcher Paul Sewald in the New York Mets organization. Both players have advanced to the AA level and are continuing their climb. Sappington played with Hannibal in 2010 and 2011; Sewald in 2010.

What was the total and average per game attendance last year?

The Cavemen attracted a little under 20,000 fans in 2014 with an average just under 700 per game.

What new features will there be at Cavemen games this summer?

The Summer Saturday Concert Series, featuring a band after each Saturday home game this season. Concessions, including beer sales, will be open as late as 12:30 on those Saturday nights. Also, a spruced up ballpark, new menu items including a "walking taco", Family Fridays with family style promotions and concessions, Super Sundays with free admission for kids and military. The biggest change will be lower ticket prices, dropping to as low as $3 for kids general admission and $5 for adults.
