Did you feel the Autumnal Equinox at 2:50 this morning?  That was the official arrival time for the Autumnal Equinox. Where did the summer go? It is hard to believe that  Summer is officially over.Basically, there are only two days when the sun crosses the Equator. One is the Vernal Equinox, or first day of spring. The other is the Autumnal Equinox marking the first day of autumn.

The word “equinox” is a Latin word meaning “equal night”. So basically, there will be equal amounts of time for darkness of night and light of day on those two days. So fall  began in the Northern Hemisphere and spring started in the Southern Hemisphere at 2:50 this morning central time.

There is also the folklore legend that says you can balance an egg on its end because the Earth’s gravitational pull is supposedly balanced equally during an equinox time period. I have never been able to do that in the few attempts I have tried over the years.

If I happened to be up this morning at 2:50, I might have tried it but I wasn't. Here's what happened when I tried it a few years ago.
