Hancock County Sheriff Scott Bentzinger reports deputies responded to a report of a vehicle fire at the intersection Hancock County Roads 850 North and 1800 East at 11:42 p.m. Friday.

An investigation revealed the SUV was westbound and failed to stop at a stop sign. The vehicle went through a T intersection, through a ditch, struck a fence post and caught fire with the driver inside.

Hancock County Coroner Kendall Beals conducted an autopsy Sunday and needed dental records to identify the driver as 63 year old Thomas Ernst of Quincy.
