Dennis Oliver (“D.O.”) Announces Retirement From Y101 Radio

A local radio icon has announced that he will be retiring. Dennis Oliver, after 40 years behind the microphone, will co-host Townsquare Media’s Y101 Radio morning show one more time on Friday, December 16. That show, with long-time co-host Jeff Dorsey, will air from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Y101 Radio (100.9) and Y101radio.com. The entire three hours will be devoted to talking about Oliver’s career and the audience will be welcomed and encouraged to call in to wish him well.

In addition, Townsquare Media is hosting a “Meet & Greet” event on Saturday, December 17 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Quincy Elks Lodge for the public to stop by and wish Dennis well. Refreshments will be available.

Oliver, a native of Pittsfield, Illinois, began his career in 1976 at WBBA in Pittsfield. He later moved on to KQCA Radio in Canton in 1980, WQCY in Quincy in 1985 and joined KRRY (Y101) in 1992 and has been a fixture on morning radio in West-Central Illinois and Northeast Missouri.

He has been active in many community projects including being a part of the D.A.R.E. program at local high schools for years. Oliver co-founded the annual St. Patrick’s Parade in Quincy back in 1986 and has been a part of the Special Olympics Polar Plunge since its inaugural year.

Dennis Oliver’s radio career has covered three generations of listeners and he will be missed by all including his co-workers. Townsquare Media would like to thank Dennis Oliver for sharing his incredible talent and congratulate him on a fabulous radio career and wish him well in his retirement.
