Winter will be here before you know it. So it is time to get your firewood ready. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced that firewood cutting for personal use will be allowed on designated areas of Mark Twain Lake.

The cutting period will begin on October 20, 2014 and continue through February 20, 2015. Keep in mind that firewood cutting areas may close for for short durations during this period to accommodate hunting seasons, bad weather or ground conditions.

The fee for a firewood permit is $10. Keep in mind that firewood for commercial use or resale is prohibited. Permits must be obtained between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Mark Twain Lake Project Office.

For more information, contact the Mark Twain Lake Project Office at 573-735-4097.
