This area is blessed with many great coaches involved with a variety of sports but there is one coach that has touched more lives than any other in the area and that is Southeastern High School's Dave Swisegood.

Coach Swisegood, now in his eighties, still runs out to his coaching box, throws batting practice and runs infield practice like he is in his forties. Most people around here are aware of Coach Swisegood who became the winningest High School Baseball Coach in the State of Illinois when Southeastern beat Lewistown on April 7th 2008. It was a game that I personally attended. That win gave him 893 career victories and moved him past Coach Jack Kaiser of Oak Park High School on the all time wins list.

Or did he? Lets see?

It's been four years since that momentous day in Lewistown and as I checked the IHSA webpage this morning, which according to the IHSA, was updated at 10:05am on December 8, 2011, there's Dave Swisegood in 2nd place behind Coach Kaiser.  What gives here? It's been four years and the IHSA still hasn't put Dave Swisegood where he belongs and that's on top of that list.  What are they waiting for?

If you ask Coach Swisegood about it he would just say, "No big deal".  Well it is a big deal to everyone whoever played under him and those who have followed his teams. They too would like to be known as winners and a part of  Coach Swisegood's record.  So IHSA, please make the correction as soon as possible. Major League Baseball waited too long on Ron Santo, don't make the same mistake with Coach Dave Swisegood.  He deserves better.
