One area phone service provider is telling its customers the time has come to switch to ten-digit dialing.

In a press release Monday, officials with Chariton Valley advised its customers it is transitioning from seven to ten digit dialing for local calls.

Last July, the Federal Communications Commission established 988 as the three digit number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. That means any phone carrier that uses 988 as a prefix must convert to ten-digit local dialing

]Even though ten-digit dialing does not become mandatory until November 1st, Chariton Valley customers are urged to switch over immediately to get used to the process and to reset any seven-digit numbers in their contact list.
