Missouri has seen some historic and tragic tornadoes, but few can rival a twister that tore through St. Louis in the Spring of 1896. It was so fierce it even blew steamboats out of the river.

There are many in Illinois that remember a time decades ago when cicadas were so thick, people had to remove them with snow shovels. Believe it or not, the incoming cicada army in 2024 will make that look like a minor event as experts say the Land of Lincoln is about to see more cicadas than it's seen in more than 200 years.

I may have a phobia that I don't know about because of how much this makes me want to squirm. I've learned that Missouri possesses two very gruesome world records and it involves nails and teeth. I may need to talk to a therapist after this.

Let's face it. The era of thriving malls in America is probably in the rear view mirror now, but it didn't used to be that way. There are two malls that are considered among the worst in America that used to thrive but 'fell into ruin' and they used to call Illinois home.

If you have enough food to eat and a roof over your head, you are blessed. Many in Missouri do not have that assurance. There's one place in particular where the poverty rate is higher than anyplace else and it's a city where more than half of the people there suffer.

The 80's were the best. If you doubt me, take a journey with me into the now distant past when Missouri was so 80's that it had a McDonald's riverboat dock at the St. Louis riverfront.

It's only happened once in history that we know of, but a tsunami did once travel up the Mississippi River in Missouri and by the time it was done, 30 boats were no more.

Since I was born and raised in Missouri and I am an earthquake nerd, I thought I knew everything there was to know about faults in Missouri. The only one in Missouri is New Madrid, right? Wrong.

Times, they are changing. There are many things including some that have been popular for decades that are about to disappear from Missouri forever in 2024. This might make you nostalgic.

There are two things that interest me when it comes to land in Missouri. I'm always curious who owns the most of it and also why. Those are not always easy questions to answer. But, in the case of one man who was the largest private landowner in the state, the why question is easily answered. It's the who that will probably confuse you as he's someone many have never heard of.
