Canton’s Historic Schoolhouse Needs Your Help

Just south of Canton, Missouri sits Martin Park. And within that park sits an old brick building with a ton of history. Opening in the late 1800s, this brick building was once a one-room school (named Lincoln Colored School) for African American children in grades one through eight. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, but fell into disrepair.

Now, a group is aiming to bring the building back to life (and it's asking for your donations to assist). The money will be used to update the inside of the school house according to the City of Canton Facebook page.

I remember when I used to go to that park, I'd wonder how those students managed to concentrate on really hot summer days. How great would it be to restore this building to show kids what it was really like to learn in a one-room schoolhouse.
