On August 22 the City of Quincy, as part of their 175th Anniversary, illuminated the Quincy Bayview Bridge with spectacular colors in front of thousands of people on the Riverfront. Now the purpose of doing so is for people to enjoy viewing the different colors when they enter the City of Quincy from the West. That’s the good part. The bad part is that bridge is not so visible when entering the city from the other three directions.

It is not visible at all entering the area from the North on 3rd Street. It is not really visible coming from the East on Broadway until you actually get to 3rd Street. The same holds true if you are coming into the city from the South on Gardner Expressway. There is not much that can be done when entering Quincy from the north on 3rd or the east on Broadway but there is something that can be done if one is entering the City via Gardner Expressway.

There are numerous trees or brush that have grown up near the Expressway that if removed or trimmed would make the Bridge view accessible from the South. Perhaps a movement should be made to make that happen.

If you go through the process of lighting the Bayview Bridge and do it as well as the city did, then you must make the viewing opportunities better for people entering the city as well. The Gardner Expressway view can be enhanced with a little work.
