The Barry Apple Festival is the latest area event to fall victim to the COVID-19 pandemic. Organizers announced on the group's Facebook  page that the circumstances forced their hand. There were too many unanswered questions about liability issues, insurance, crowd size, and even the availability of carnival rides for the show to go on as scheduled October 2 - 4.

The Apple Festival is a big tradition and will be missed especially by Barry businesses, according to the festival committee:

"Not only is this cancellation a blow to our committee and our community, it is a huge blow to the businesses in Barry. Several of our businesses count on this weekend to make enough money to help carry them through the slow winter months. With that being said, we implore you to step in and help them. Whenever possible shop local, buy local. The businesses and the community will need your help."

Even though the major events of the Apple Festival are cancelled, the committee announced the annual golf tournament fundraiser will take place as scheduled in August. There will also be a quilt raffle and the traditional apple fritter sales in Barry on Saturday, October 3.
