Coming soon to a river or junkyard near you, a bridge that the State of Illinois may not need.

A bridge in eastern Pike County Illinois may soon be coming down or refurbished. But right now, that depends on you. The bridge is located at Florence, Ill. in eastern Pike County. Hearings are going on in that area about what to do with the bridge. It is the kind of bridge that, when a barge comes down the river, a part of the bridge must be raised so the barge can pass underneath it. It is manned twenty-four hours a day because someone has to be able to raise or lower the bridge.  That takes money. The bridge, in it's day was a great bridge, state of the art. But now, it is getting very old to keep it in shape. What will happen to the Florence Bridge? Stay tuned!
