Summer is a difficult time to collect enough blood to meet patient needs.

According to the American Red Cross, nearly 90 percent of donors surveyed this past spring said they planned to take vacation this summer, potentially making them less available to give. But the need for blood is constant.

According to the Red Cross, every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. Donations of all types are needed, especially type O negative, A negative and B negative.

Upcoming blood donation opportunities in Adams County can be found by visiting the American Red Cross West Central Illinois and Northeast Missouri Chapter online.
