I love taking the Amtrak train to Chicago, and now I hear there is very good news for the route between Quincy and Chicago.

Ridership continues to grow on the Carl Sanburg route, and that is very good news for Quincy. People take the trains for all sorts of reasons, like meetings, medical appointments and Chicago sports games. Amtrak also gives college students from Chicago an easy link to down state universities and colleges.

How well is the Illinois Zephyr-Carl Sandburg route doing? According to Amtrak, The train route had 112,888 passengers during the first half of Amtrak's fiscal year from October 2012 through the end of March. That was up 1,384 from the previous year.

I have not been on the trip for a couple of years, and I miss it. It might be time to go on a trip...
