Those of us in Quincy and Adams County now have a new option when it comes to reporting an emergency. Quincy/Adams County 911 Director Steve Rowlands announced that the region can now contact 911 via text message.

Naturally, calling 911 is still the preferred method, so PLEASE still call 911 if you are able.

But if for whatever reason you cannot pick up the phone and call, 911 operators ask that you state your location, articulate the issue clearly (without text slang or abbreviations), be brief, state what kind of assistance you need (police, fire, ambulance), and don’t send multimedia (photos, videos, etc.)

If you need the service, simply text to “911” (no dashes).
