They are here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year and when you need them they are there within minutes. I am referring to the Police Department. Say what you want about the Police, I for one am glad they are here. Imagine what life would be like without them. Although most of us have probably never had to call the Police, when you do they respond in a very professional manner and sometimes to very difficult situations. They are there when you need them. Unfortunately, for some being there has led to their ultimate sacrifice..their life. In 2011, 166 police officers lost their lives in service to their community. This morning the Quincy Police Department honored those fallen officers with a National Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony at the Quincy City Hall Plaza. The event featured speakers and the Quincy Police Department Honor Guard which lowered the American flag to half staff to honor those officers who lost their lives. When you drive by City Hall Plaza today please look at that flag and take a moment a say a prayer for those officer's families and for the safety of all officers in our country. There are 166 police officers who can't do that today that could a year ago...166 is 166 too many.
