YMCA, Quincy University & Special Olympics to Hold ‘Buddy Ball’
One of the great things about living in the Quincy area is how people find a way to help other people. In this case it is for children with special needs. The Quincy Family YMCA has partnered with the Quincy University softball team and Special Olympics Illinois to bring a baseball league geared toward local children with special needs to the area. The first game for "Buddy Ball" will be held Monday, September 10, at Q.U. Stadium at 5:45 p.m., with subsequent games to be held weekly through October 1.
This "Buddy Ball" league was created exclusively for children ages 5-21 with special needs and physical disabilities to have some fun and the baseball rules have been adapted for the participants. Participants will hit off of a tee and there will be no scoring kept during the game. The children will have a “Buddy” to assist them if needed. Those buddies will be comprised of Q.U. softball players.
There is a season cost to play of $30 which includes a shirt, hat and a buddy. Deadline to register is September 4 and financial assistance is available.
