It is a brand new semester and a brand new school year (and a brand new school for some of you). Welcome to Quincy, Illinois and Quincy University!

Some students like seasonal athletes, marching band participants and Welcome Weekend delegates are already in their residence halls. Quincy University will welcome first-year students beginning August 15 and all other students two days later. It is always a busy time with students moving into the dorms and getting to know the campus.

Many upgrades have been made, as well, around the QU campus. There is a new Student Success Center on the lower level of Brenner Hall funded entirely through an anonymous grant. The Student Success Center includes centers through which students can receive specialized academic support in writing and math as well as supplemental instruction in a range of other, historically challenging, subjects. The facility will also include a state-of-the-art computer lab for student use.

The university's Health and Fitness Center is now in its 15th year, and has refinished the three-court basketball surface including the refinishing of the two wooden courts and the replacement of the rubber court. The facilities are open to both students and the public.

Fans of QU basketball and volleyball will also notice that the four-panel scoreboard hanging above Pepsi Arena has been replaced by two 8’ by 13’ video monitors hung at both the east and west sides of the arena. New scoreboards were installed on both ends of the arena as well.

This year is also the first year of recruiting for Quincy University's new women's swim team, which begins competition in 2015.

Welcome, students, new and returning. We hope your school year is great, and you enjoy the city during your time in college.
