After several discouraging incidents involving police officers around our country, Cindy Vancil-Haxel felt the need to do something to show officers in Quincy that they are appreciated. What she did was begin a "We Back the Blue" campaign.  With help from several local businesses, Cindy set out to hold a "We Back the Blue" appreciation day today to show support for our local police department. At a news conference held this morning at Quincy City Hall, Cindy presented Police Chief Rob Copley a goodie bag filled with healthy candy bars and other items including a "Back the Blue" t-shirt.

Every employee of the police department will be getting a goodie bag as well.  Those will be distributed tomorrow at 6 p.m. and also on Saturday, December 19 at 6 a.m.

The t-shirts, designed by Ted's Shirt Shack, will also be available to the public for just $10 with proceeds going to the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association Fund to purchase new technology for the police department.

The t-shirts are available for purchase at Dancer's Dream at 529 South 8th, Street, Second String Music at 5th and Maine, and Smith Brothers Power Sports at 5005 Broadway, all in Quincy. If you would like to place an order for a shirt, call 257-7585.

Cindy's dream became a reality today. Congratulations on a great undertaking for a great cause as well.
