Let me start off by saying I love my husband and my children. I tell them every single day and I show it as well. So why must I prove it by buying chocolates, cards, flowers, or stuffed animals? Oh, I know. Because that's what stores do to market their product. Well guess what? I'm not buying it.

As you can see, I am not a fan of Valentine's Day. I look at it as just a made up holiday for people to spend money after spending money for the holidays. Yes, it's a day of love (again, I show that to my family every day). But why should I express that on just one day? I'm like the Grinch of Valentine's Day. Chocolates get eaten, cards get thrown away, stuffed animals end up in garage sales, and flowers die. Told you I'm like a Grinch.

I would rather get a present for my birthday (which is in March) than anything for Valentine's Day. Now, I have received flowers and candy from my husband and I am very appreciative of it, don't get me wrong. But again, I would rather get a nice present for my birthday or have him spend that money on our girls. I will do our traditional heart pizza and cupcakes and get the girls something special, but only because they know it's coming and if I don't get anything I will never hear the end of it.

Valentine's Day is a marketing tool for restaurants and businesses to make money off of couples that are in love. Well, I've been married almost 15 years and I feel loved every day. I don't need one day a year for my husband to prove it.

To those who love this holiday, I wish I could love it like you do. I am grateful that I have someone to share the day with. But my perfect day would be sitting at home, eating a heart-shaped pizza and watching a movie. And that is exactly what I plan on doing this Valentine's Day.
