Call me crazy, you guys, but I think Quincy is finally starting to win over the folks over at onlyinyourstate.com.

As you might recall, it was only a couple weeks ago that contributor Amanda Glandon ranked Quincy as one of Illinois’ “Most Dangerous Places After Dark” based on an isolated violent crime statistic from 2015.

Two weeks later, she all but forgave Quincy, because despite our short fuses and violent tempers, we are home to the Maid Rite sandwich, which ranked atop her list of “11 Illinois Sandwiches You Have To Try Before You Die”.

Well she’s back at it with a blog dedicated specifically to the Gem City called “The Unique Town In Illinois That’s Anything But Ordinary”. Doesn’t exactly roll of the tongue, but hey, we’ll take it.

She gets into our history with the Underground Railroad, our churches (and bars) on every corner, and our unrelenting allegiance to QHS basketball (apologies to QND fans). She says “Quinsippi Island” has “lots to offer its visitors” which I can only take to mean, she’s never been to Quinsippi Island.

She calls Tirimisu “one of the only places is Southern Illinois to get authentic Italian food”. Ahh, I see that we fall into the definition of “Southern Illinois” that equates to basically “not Chicago”. Oh well, we’ll take what we can get, I suppose.

Anyway, if you’ve made it this far, you might as well check out the article in full HERE. What do you think? Did she capture the essence that makes Quincy “Anything But Ordinary”?
