The election for President of the United States is still 14 months away and I for one am already sick of hearing about it. Donald Trump said this and Jeb Bush spoke in Spanish about that and will Hillary Clinton survive her emails and Benghazi.  Enough already. It’s 14 months out!  A lot can happen in 14 months so I am one who waits until a few weeks out and then I make up my mind who the best candidate is. I don’t need 14 to 18 months before the election to figure it out and no one else does either.

The campaigning for President should begin January 1 of the election year and no sooner. Think of all the money spent already on a campaign that will last almost two years until election day. What a waste of money for an election this far out.

Locally, the same can be said for the race for Adams County States Attorney.  That primary election won’t be held until March of 2016, yet the campaign for that position began last winter. And that is for the primary, with the winner running for election in the general election in November of next year. That’s over 20 months of campaigning for a local position.

There are guidelines on dates for when campaign signs can go up.  Perhaps we need guidelines for how long political campaigns should be as well. And that’s the way I see it.
