It happens every year around the 4th of July. American Flags are placed on properties along several Quincy city streets. One such street that I drive on often is South 24th Street. If you have driven along that street in the past few days you undoubtedly have noticed the flags. Other locations include Maine Street, Spring Lake Estates and parts of LaGrange, Missouri. I am sure you are just a curious as I was to see who is responsible for doing this each year. So the Big Dog turned into a snoop dog and here is your answer.

The flags are placed in various locations by the folks at Davis & Frese Realtors in Quincy. The idea came from owners Don and Paula Frese who, while visiting their daughter in Minnesota, saw the flags being displayed there by a Minnesota realtor. They brought the idea to Quincy years ago and it is still going strong.

Each year Carol Rischar, a broker for Davis & Frese Realtors, displays the flags on South 24th Street and started doing so while her son was in the service serving in Afghanistan. Other brokers handle other areas and all of them do it to show their patriotism for America. Before you start thinking this is an advertising ploy, it is not used as an advertising tool. If it were, we all would have known who has been doing this act years ago. Instead, I just found out today like you probably just did.

Over 5000 flags were purchased by Davis & Frese for display this year alone. Not only are hats off when we see the flag flying, but hats off also to the people involved with displaying them in our very patriotic city.
