I received a newsletter this morning from The District in Quincy. In it, Travis Brown of wrote the following, “As Independence Day came and went, we have noticed that the American flags throughout The District are becoming more tattered and worn. This doesn't reflect well upon our City or our patriotism as a community, and The District is organizing an effort to change this.”

According to Brown, the City of Quincy owns the flags, but has no monies budgeted to replace them. As a result, The District is beginning a campaign to purchase new flags to replace the current ones that currently fly along Maine Street and around Washington Park. Their goal is to have the new flags delivered and installed prior to September 11.

The total cost to replace the flags is approximately $1500.00. The District is utilizing their e-commerce site, www.shopthedistrictquincy.com to collect donations through their “District Store” for anyone wishing to donate online. They will also accept cash or check donations that can be sent to The District, Attn: Flag Donations, 128 North 5th St, Quincy, IL 62301.

Any amount donated would be appreciated but to sponsor a flag and pole you are asked to donate at least at the $50 level to cover the cost. For more information call 228-8896.
