In a day and age where people take advantage of others when they get the opportunity to do, so my hat goes off to the Quincy Park District for doing what was right and not "gouging" the public.

During the recent heat wave, the public pools at Indian Mounds and Wavering Parks were very busy places.  Knowing that more people than usual would be attending their aquatic centers, the Park District could have kept their rates at their normal cost or even increased them but instead lowered them to just a dollar. The  normal  prices to attend the pools are $4.25 for youth 17 and under and seniors 62 and older and $4.75 for adults 18 to 61 years of age.   Those rates now apply since the Excessive Heat Warning is no longer in effect.

For many people to escape the heat the pool was an ideal place to visit and they could do so for just a dollar. The Park District may have taken a loss but what they did was right and they are to be commended for doing so. Remember the pool at Indian Mounds is open Monday through Friday from 11am to 6:30pm and from 11am to 7pm on Saturday and Sunday.  The hours of operation for Wavering Pool are 11am to 7pm Monday through Friday and 12 noon to 7pm on Saturday and Sunday.
