Thank You Quincy Gems!
So the local baseball regular season for the Quincy Gems has wound down. For those who went to see the team play this season, you undoubtedly had an enjoyable time and isn’t that what you want when you spend your money….. to be entertained? Oh, maybe the Gems didn’t win as many games as you may have wanted them to, but the fact is, it is a wonderful place to take your family for an economical price.
Quincy is extremely fortunate to have a team playing in the Prospect League. Just three years ago, the Gems were for sale and there was some question as to whether a new owner would come forward. Fortunately, someone did.
So what about next season??? Hopefully, the Gems will have their Hannibal Cavemen neighbor back into the league. Apparently, there are conversations about the resurrection of the Hannibal ball club for next season. Hopefully, those conversations will move forward so baseball can return to Clemens Field. If it happens, the business community and the fans need to support it.
Thank you to the business community and the fans who supported the Quincy Gems this summer. Hannibal felt the void of no baseball this summer and their fans absorbed the hurt of no team to root for. The Gems are good to go for next season, but just the thought of Quincy without the Gems would definitely sting.
Thanks to Jimmy & Julie Louthen, owners of the Gems, for keeping baseball alive in Quincy and hopefully we can say the same at the end of next season to former Caveman part-owner Rick DeStefane for fielding a 2018 team in Hannibal.
