If anyone knows me, they know I love the blues. They also know that I am a fixture at the Blues in the District concerts and sit next to what is now known as the “Big Dog’s Rock” in Washington Park. For blues lovers out there the 2015 edition of Blues in the District starts tonight at 5:30 p.m.
The beauty of Quincy in early summer will be easily seen on Quincy Preserves “Behind the Garden Gate” tour taking place Saturday, June 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The tour is being held in conjunction with the MidSummer Arts Faire.
The Blues in the District has become one of Quincy's more popular events. It is attended by thousands each summer. In the 17 years of its existence people from all over the area bring their lawn chairs and coolers and enjoy some wonderful Blues music and all at absolutely no admission cost.
This Saturday, April 19, at 10 a.m. in Washington Park, the Historic Quincy Business District will partner with downtown churches to provide the community a free Easter Egg Hunt. This event is free to the public and will feature hunts for several ages.
Sub zero temperatures and snowy conditions isn't something that would lead many people to think about when the first Blues in the District will be this year, except maybe me. Anyone who knows me knows I love the blues (music that is) and they know my seat is always next to "my" rock in Washington Park on those wonderful Friday nights.
The Quincy Police Department held a news conference at Washington Park this afternoon, and announced an arrest in the case of Newcomb Hotel fire. 24-year-old Matthew C. Clark has been arrested in the case.
Things are shaping up to be a perfect night to enjoy chili dogs and the blues at Washington Park tonight. From 5 pm 'til 9 tonight there will be several civic groups participating in selling a variety of chili dogs as a fundraiser during the final Historic Quincy Business District's Blues in The District.
Well, last Friday thousands turned out for "Flames in the District," and thousands may turn out this Friday for "Blues in the District!" The Rusty Wright Band will entertain the attendees at Washington Park for the season finale.
