Saturday Mail Delivery to End August 1

Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe announced at a news conference today that the financially struggling U.S. Postal Service plans to stop delivering mail on Saturdays starting August 1,but will continue delivering packages.

It was back in February when word came down that a number of employees at the Quincy Mail Processing and Distribution Center were notified that they will lose their jobs as part of a nationwide consolidation of postal operations. A U.S. Postal Service Spokeswoman said that much of the Quincy Center's processing and distribution will be folded in to the Columbia, Missouri Operations.
