Baseball Hall of Fame Sports Writer and Quincy native, Rick Hummel joined the Quincy Exchange Club last Friday for their annual Hot Stove League program.
Yet another wonderful Exchange Club “Hot Stove” meeting was conducted Friday with Rick Hummel, the Baseball Hall of Fame Writer of the St. Louis Post Dispatch
The Quincy Exchange Club was honored to have Baseball Hall of Famer and sportswriter for the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Rick Hummel, as its speaker today.
The song came out in 1908 and it is played at almost every baseball game played in America including the Hannibal Cavemen and the Quincy Gems games. It’s the “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” song and that song has single handedly sent the sales of Cracker Jack through the roof. In the song there is a line that says “Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack.”
He comes to Quincy every February and brings his vast knowledge of sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, and is kind enough to share that knowledge with the Quincy Exchange Club. He is Rick Hummel, the Baseball Hall of Fame Sports Writer for the St. Louis Post Dispatch. Hummel spoke to a huge crowd of Exchange Club members and guests today at Quincy's Stoney Creek Inn.
