The Quincy Exchange Club held the first of two installments of the Character Champions awards presentations last Friday at Stoney Creek Inn. The Character Champions program is designed to help coaches turn individual athletes into highly effective teams demonstrating sportsmanship and character. Former Quincy Notre Dame and current Nebraska senior place-kicker Pat Smith has been named the Big Ten Conference special teams player of the week, the conference announced today. Smith was honored after kicking the game-tying and game-winning field goals in Nebraska’s 23-20 overtime win at Penn State last Saturday.

It is hard to believe but this Saturday the 6th Annual Veteran's Parade will be held in Quincy with nearly 80 entries ready to go down Maine Street beginning at 10am. I remember meeting with the parade chairmen Jim Ponsot and Dick McKinney five years ago to discuss putting on the first parade.  We had no idea how many entries we would have but to see it nearing 80 this year is fabulous.
