Quincy Gems

There may be snow and frigid temperatures outside, but soon the words "play ball" will ring and we will be watching the Prospect League action in both Hannibal and Quincy before you know it. But, be aware, if you haven't heard, the start times for the games are different for both teams than what they have been in past years.

It's been cold, really cold! Wind chill values have not only been below zero, but double digits below zero. I suppose it could be worse. We could be buried under several feet of snow, like the northeast. Even so, I'm sure that I'm not alone when I say that I'm ready for winter to be over...

The 2015 Quincy Gems Baseball schedule was release today and the Gems will open up on the road at Danville on May 27. That will be followed by their home opener on May 28 against a brand new team in the Prospect League, the Kokomo Jackrabbits.

Anyone who enjoyed watching the Quincy Gems play baseball this summer was glad to hear that the team was sold to a local group consisting of Terry Martin, his son, Chris Martin, along with Julie and Jimmy Louthen. One of the first things the new owners wanted to do was to meet with the sponsors and fans and that is what they will be doing this Sunday.

The Quincy Gems captured the Prospect League Championship last night as they defeated the Chillicothe Paints 3 to 1 in Ohio and won the three game series 2 games to 1.

With a chance to capture the Prospect League Championship last night with a victory, the Quincy Gems came up on the short side of a 7 to 2 score at the hands of the Chillicothe Paints in Ohio. That loss now sets up a winner takes all scenario tonight as the two teams play the decisive game three.

I hope you have had the opportunity to view what they are calling the “supermoon” the last couple of days. I happened to see it Sunday night when it magically appeared over the right field fence at Q.U. Stadium while I was watching the Quincy Gems play baseball. It was quite a sight.

The Quincy Gems, fresh off of their 9 - nothing win over Chillicothe Paints last night, will make the trek to southern Ohio today to get ready to play what could be the decisive game to determine the Prospect League Championship.

The Quincy Gems pulled out a 5 to 4 victory over the Danville Dans last night in Danville to even the Prospect League's best of 3 Western Division playoff series at one game a piece. With the series tied, the decisive game three will be held tonight in Danville.
