It maybe still some 7 weeks away but the Quincy Gems are gearing up for their 2016 Summer Prospect League baseball season on the field and off.  The Gems are stocking their roster with ballplayers from around the country and here locally as well.  For the fans, they will see some new things this year at Q.U. Stadium including new bathrooms, new bullpens and a Wall of Honor for living and deceased

There will be no post-season berths at stake, but the Hannibal Cavemen and Quincy Gems will square off at QU Stadium to close out the 2015 Prospect League season Thursday, playing for pride and continuing the "Battle for the Paddle."

The Hannibal Cavemen and Quincy Gems hooked up in an old-fashioned pitcher’s duel Friday night, and it was the Gems that held on for a 1-0 win at QU Stadium.

Former Quincy Gem’s ambidextrous pitcher Pat Venditte has been called up to the Oakland A’s from Triple-A Nashville. Venditte, who played for the Quincy Gems in the Central Illinois Collegiate League in 2006, will be in uniform when the A’s meet the Boston Red Sox tonight.

The Quincy Gems have become famous for good times at the ballpark, good baseball and really good fireworks shows after some games. The reigning Prospect League champions have three fireworks nights on the schedule this season.

I took the opportunity to ask “Chickenman” a few questions so we all could get to know him a little better and even I learned something I didn’t know about him.
