We are now 3 weeks and a day away from the home opener for the Quincy Gems. On May 31st, the Gems will open up their home season with a game against the Danville Dans at historic Q.U. Stadium. It will also be Y101 Night at the ballpark as well. Since the last out of the Cubs World Series clinching victory over the Indians, I have been had the bug.  What bug you ask? The bug to go to the batting cage and smash some baseballs around is attacking me like I would a fastball. The bad news was that the Quincy Park District’s Batting Cage at Upper Moorman Park has been closed. The good news is that it will open for the season today at 3:30 p.m.

So the local baseball regular season for the Quincy Gems and the Hannibal Cavemen has wound down.  For those who went to see the teams play this season, you undoubtedly had an enjoyable time and isn’t that what you want when you spend your money….. to be entertained?  Oh, maybe the Gems and the Cavemen didn’t win as many games as you may have wanted them to, but the fact is it is a wonderful place

The song came out in 1908 and it is played at almost every baseball game played in America including the Hannibal Cavemen and the Quincy Gems games. It’s the “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” song and that song has single handedly sent the sales of Cracker Jack through the roof. In the song there is a line that says “Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack.”

For the past two weeks Y101 Radio has been soliciting names for the Y101 Little League baseball team to represent Y101 on the field during the Quincy Gem's season opening pre-game ceremony. Thank you to all who nominated a young person to be on the team. The team was announced today.
