March 11 has always brought memories and good times for me.  My father was born on March 11 and every year we would celebrate his birthday and every year he would get the same birthday gift from me. That gift was two tickets to opening day of the baseball season. I haven't been able to give him tickets for 29 years now. He passed away in 1985 from Alzheimer's or dementia as it was known then. My, how the world has changed in my lifetime. As a kid in Brooklyn, New York, I could go out and play in the neighborhood. There was no fear of someone coming by and taking me away. Unfortunately, we don’t live in my past world and kids are being taken away. Such was the case of 10 year old Hailey Owens of Springfield, Missouri.

Call it Table Tennis or Ping Pong, it is still a fun game to play and a great way to get some exercise as well. As a two time winner of the Rome, New York summer table tennis championships as a kid, I found ping pong to be quite a bit of fun to play.

Eric Nadel, who has spent the past 35 years as the voice of the Texas Rangers, has been selected as the 2014 recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award, presented annually for excellence in broadcasting by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

According to the Chicago’s WBBM-TV web page, the police in Chicago are changing their response to the 911 calls they get beginning this week. They’ll no longer come right away to reports of things like criminal damage to property, vehicle thefts, garage burglaries, or other crimes in which the suspect is no longer on the scene, and the victim is not in immediate danger.

As the news came in yesterday there it was, yet another shooting of innocent people. Two firefighters were killed and two others were wounded when they arrived at the scene of a fire in Webster, New York outside of Rochester, New York yesterday.
