For the fourth time this year, the Great River Honor Flight takes off this weekend on its mission to bring veterans to the nation's war memorials.

With the last full day of winter is scheduled for March 19, which is 47 days away, I thought I would present some dates for baseball fans and non-fans that would warm us up here in February .

A few weeks back, we asked you to vote on the area’s BEST high school mascot. The Quincy Blue Devils took that vote, but that got me thinking about about college mascots.

There will be something for all ages at "Bat-Fest" Saturday, October 22 at Admiral Coontz Recreation Center. "Bat-Fest" is part of a two-day celebration to mark the dedication of Sodalis Nature Preserve, Hannibal’s  second largest park and a nationally important Indiana bat habitat area.  There is no cost.

The world's first surviving septuplets are scheduled to graduate Sunday from an Iowa high school.

The 29th Annual Hannibal Kiwanis Club's Easter Egg Hunt will be held this Saturday, March 26, at the Mabee Sports Complex on the campus of Hannibal-LaGrange University.

The four local university or college baseball teams are in full swing with early games being played on the road in southern locales.  As the weather warms here the teams will return home.  With that said, if you are chomping at the bit to watch some college baseball, here are the home opening dates for Quincy University, Hannibal-LaGrange University, Culver-Stockton College and John Wood Community

Hannibal-LaGrange University will be holding their 74th annual Booster Banquet at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 20 at the Mabee Sports Complex. The Booster Banquet is known for bringing nationally known speakers to America's Hometown. On August 27, the next mission of the Great River Honor Flight program will head to Washington DC. This is the 32nd mission overall since the program started back in 2010 and will bring the total number of local veterans who have flown to Washington DC for free to over 1,000.  This mission will include local veterans who served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
