Quincy Gems and Hannibal Cavemen – Another Season of Local Baseball About to Begin

Local baseball fans are getting ready for opening day. Unfortunately, both the Quincy Gems and the Hannibal Cavemen will open their seasons on the road on May 28, but both teams will have home games the following night. Quincy will host Springfield, and Hannibal will be visited by Danville. The Gems and Cavemen will not face one another until June 3.

Opening night at QU Stadium was nearly as perfect as it gets. Skies were clear and the temperature was mild. I will be involved this Saturday, along with Dennis Oliver, in the 3rd Annual Wild Game Cook Off at the Ridge View Winery in Mt. Sterling, Illinois. They will be cooking things like Squirrel in a Crock Pot, Beaver Burgers, Elk Roast, Turtle Stew, Deer Sausage, and God knows what else. It got me to thinking about the Pioneer days when people actually ate those foods on a daily basis.
