Are you ready for this? Scientists have announced they have managed to “unboil” an egg. This is ground breaking news you won’t hear everyplace, but you should.

University of California Irvine and Australian chemists have released research findings on how to “unboil” egg whites, a process that could help lower the production cost of cancer treatments and other pricey medications. The objective of the research was to figure out how to refold lab-created proteins associated with cancer, according to a Washington Post report.

In that same Washington Post story, Gregory Weiss, a UC-Irvine professor of chemistry, visited Colin Raston's South Australia's Flinders University laboratory and used a high-powered, vortex-fluid device to pull proteins apart.

Weiss, with the help of a graduate student, boiled eggs whites until they were "rock hard" and dissolved the boiled egg whites overnight in a urea chemical solution. Once dissolved, Weiss took the mixture, put it into the device, and spun the egg whites. The machine in minutes pulled the proteins apart, resulting in a clear solution.

According to researchers, this is a breakthrough, for example, when making cancer antibodies. This research also could benefit food production according to a statement on the UC-Irvine website.

The findings were published in the journal ChemBioChem.
