The Washington Elementary School will host something very special on Monday, January 7.

The Samatha Otte Youth Opportunity Fund will award $18,000 in grants to 14 organizations. The grants will be presented to organizations that provide leadership, artistic, humanitarian and community betterment opportunities for youth.

The fund was established with the Community Foundation in memory of Samatha Otte who suffered from cystic fibrosis and died at the age of 10 in March of 2000 from complications arising from a liver transplant.

With the awards presented on January 7, over 140 grants totaling almost $215,000 have been distributed from the fund since it was established with the Community Foundation in late 2000. Samatha will always be a beacon of hope for children in our community.
