Railroad Buffs Need to Make This Stop in Belton, Missouri

Railroad buffs, if you ever go to the Kansas City area make sure you make a stop at the Belton-Grandview & Kansas City Railroad. It is there where you can take a step back in time to the first half of the last century and ride a train like your grandparents may have ridden.  You can board their 1920’s era passenger coach or their open-air excursion car and take a ride behind their 1950’s diesel locomotive through Old Towne Belton, Missouri through Grandview, Missouri (the Big Dog’s old stomping grounds) and the surrounding area into Kansas City.

You can even ride in the cab of the locomotive with the engineer. While you’re waiting for the train, you can walk around the yard and look at the display equipment, freight cars, Club car, instruction car, maintenance-of-way equipment, and two static display steam locomotives. You can also visit their baggage car gift shop, talk to the train crew, and even visit the locomotive. Once back in Belton, you can finish off your trip with a visit to the shops of Main Street Belton.

The Belton-Grandview & Kansas City Railroad Company is a short line passenger railroad and demonstration museum in Belton, Missouri, just south of the Kansas City Metro area on U.S. Highway 71/49.  The BG&KC offers excursions from Belton on a 45 minute round trip. The BG&KC is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to preserving rail travel and railroading.
