Quincy’s newest (and most unique) ice cream parlor is officially open for business.

Admittedly, we’ve been looking forward to this one for a while. So naturally when we got word that the wait was over, I made a little venture out to the mall to try it for myself. I believe they call that “market research” (man, I love my job).

This is a family run operation and I had the pleasure of meeting the three generations manning the counter today: Tammy, Clinton, and Jordan. Tammy walked me through the seemingly limitless menu, Clinton gave me a little background on the rolled ice cream concept, and Jordan did the hard work of cranking out my Oreo “Cookie Monster” and serving it up. Here’s how that went…

Step One: Pour

That’s the gist of it anyway.

The rolled ice cream concept hails from Thailand street vendors. Preservative free and made right before your eyes, the cylindrical final product actually remains frozen longer than regular ice cream.

(Actually I’m just gonna have to take Clinton’s word on that one. Mine didn’t last long enough for me to find out.)

There are eight specialty flavors each with their own mix-in and topping options as well as four ice cream flavor options, 26 toppings, and six drizzle choices which equates to……..[does math]…….eleventy billion flavor combinations.

Always great to see local businesses bringing something new to the table (especially ice cream). So welcome to Quincy, Spi-Rolls! I’ll definitely be coming back!
