Lighting the Bayview Bridge has been talked about for decades, and it looks like it will happen this summer as part of the City of Quincy’s 175th Anniversary celebration. August 22 is the target date for the City of Quincy to light the Bayview Bridge from dusk to dawn.

The lighting of the bridge has been a longstanding idea first proposed by the late Joe Bonansinga, according to a Herald Whig story. The funding for the bridge lighting will came from a half-a-million dollar federal transportation grant received in 2005. That grant money, coupled with $175,000 raised from local groups, businesses and people, helped to cover the operational and construction expenses needed to make the project a go.

The $675,000 is less than the projected $1 million cost primarily because of the usage of LED lights and other advanced technology.
