Last week the it was announced that most elementary school students in Quincy will begin school later next year.  Students in Kindergarten through the 5th grade (K-5) currently start their day between 7:30 and 8:45 each morning.  Next school year that will change with K-5 classes beginning at 8:45 a.m. and ending at 3:15 p.m. According to a recent article in the Herald Whig, this change is being done to help with students transitioning to the five new K-5 learning communities and it won't affect Quincy Senior High School, Quincy Junior High School or the Early Childhood and Family Center.

Superintendent Roy Webb stated in the article that the school district plans to expand the day-care programs at multiple sites to offset concerns of parents who need to be at work by 8 a.m. daily.

Parents will be notified of these changes and options in the school district's latest newsletter (April edition).
