Press release from Quincy Community Theatre

A hearty crew of actors and actresses are climbing aboard for Quincy Community Theatre’s Family/Student Theatre adventure TREASURE ISLAND, October 22-25.

Over 60 auditioned to be part of this thrilling adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic. The resulting group of performers has travelled far and wide to bring this story to life, hailing from Quincy, IL; Payson, IL; Sutter, IL; Hannibal, MO; LaGrange, MO; and Maywood, MO. They also span a wide range of ages from 8 to 75, proving that this story is one that is still captivating to this day.

At the helm of this high-seas adventure is JT Atwood as Jim Hawkins, the adventurous teen who discovers Billy Bones’ treasure map and spurs this epic journey; Riff Scholz as Long John Silver, the legendary one-legged sea cook and mutineer who is as charming as he is villainous; Dan Conboy as Captain Smollett, the cool, collected, authoritative captain aboard the Hispaniola; Kirsten Myers as Dr. Livesey, Jim’s friend and advisor; and Mitchell Molidor as Squire Trelawney, the excitable landowner who finances the journey to Treasure Island.

Completing the crew are Megan Maiers as Israel Hands, Joe Osier as Billy Bones, Paul Denckla as Blind Pew, Kelsey Pigg as Mrs. Hawkins, Ziven Crist as Benn Gunn, Dan Tanna as the Older Jim Hawkins, Eddie Binosi as Emlyn Jenkins, Teagan Mitchell as Dick, Alayna Schlipman as Rogers, Emily Huseman as Hunter, Michael Hark as Redruth, Bradley Eston as O’Brien, Allyson Hayden as Morgan, Charlotte Tressler as Merry, Camden Scifres as Johnny Dancer, Vaughn Myers as Dirk, and Jasmine Cox as Black Dog. They are joined by Eden Myers, Laela Hernandez-Jones, and Logan Mulch as the “Hawkins Posse”—a group of performers helping to create the story as it’s being told.

Over the course of evening, this troupe of thespians will tell the story of Jim Hawkins, a young man living a quiet life in his mother’s inn. That is, until the sudden death of Billy Bones, an old tenant concealing a history of piracy and betrayal. Narrowly escaping his own demise, Jim manages to snatch a careworn map from Bones’ possessions—a map that will change his life forever. In a matter of moments, this ordinary young boy is thrust into the adventure of a lifetime, complete with plotting pirates and heart-stopping escapes.

TREASURE ISLAND is directed by Director of Student Theatre Kelsey Celek, with Cameron Walker as the assistant director, Logan Giesing as the stage manager, scenic design by Paul Denckla, costume design by Connie Phillips, properties design by Kent Slack, sound design by Cody Pezold, and fight choreography by Lenny Bart.
