According to the latest Quincy Chamber of Commerce newsletter, Quincy Fire Chief Joe Henning is warning business owners about the possibility of fire alarm hoax calls.

Apparently, the caller states they are from a  monitoring company and have a report of a fire in the building. They instruct the employee to activate the fire alarm system and when the sprinkler system does not go off (because there is no fire), they instruct the employee to break off a sprinkler head. This causes major damage to the property.

Often, calls come later at night or on weekends when someone with little authority is likely to answer the phone. If you have concerns, call the Quincy Fire Department's non-emergency number at (217) 222-9360.
