It is a sign of the times when you can now use your cell phone to prove to a police officer that you have car insurance. In case you missed it, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed a new law that will allow motorists use their cell phone to prove they have auto insurance when an officer asks to see that proof.

Over a dozen states already allow motorists to use their smartphones instead of paper copies provided by insurance carriers. Many insurance carriers, anticipating this move months ago, have established a phone app to be used by their insured motorists.

So you are being asked to not use your cell phone while driving but you can now use it if you ever get pulled over by the police. It is truly a sign of the times.
