Pro Football Pick ‘em Challenge: Congratulations, Darron Jarvis!

During the pro football season, we asked listeners to participate in the $10,000 Pro Football Pick ‘em Challenge. At the end of the season, Darron Jarvis of Canton ended up being the contestant in the Quincy/Hannibal area that picked the most games correctly. Darron now has a chance to win $1000, or even $10,000!

Darron is a 42-year-old basketball and softball coach from Canton. He has also been a delivery driver for UPS for 19 years. Darron is married and has 2 daughters.

“I have grown up loving sports and have been picking football games since the 80s in high school,” said Darron. “My brother and I are stat guys. My brother goes to such a extreme that he sends out his own rankings for college football and basketball.”

Darron was thrilled to win the season-long portion of the Pro Football Pick ‘em. “It is a great accomplishment to win this online football contest because your stronger players are looking for ways to play whenever they can and the internet makes it so much easier. It was a great season for me this year as I also won my first fantasy football league. I play fantasy football, basketball, and baseball. Fantasy sports have made watching sports a lot more exciting, but it has also taken away the team aspect.”

Darron’s favorite sports town is Houston, because the Astrodome was the first place he saw a Major League Baseball game. “Being a Houston fan has been interesting while growing up in Cardinal Nation. Everyone who knows me enjoys giving me a hard time about Houston.”

Darron says that he would most like to see a Denver and Seattle Super Bowl, but thinks the decision to have the game at MetLife Stadium is a mistake, “I wish the Super Bowl was in a controlled environment. I think it is a bad idea to have it in New York as the weather is almost insured to play a role.” The 2014 Super Bowl will be the first to be held at an outdoor stadium in a cold-weather environment.

“Overall I am a sports guy,” said Darron. “I believe sports build character in our youth if taught correctly. What better reality TV is there than sports?”

Darron will now be competing for the $10,000 grand prize. He will make picks for both the halftime score, and the final score of the Big Game on February 2. If he gets either score correct, he’ll win $1,000, and if he gets both right, Darron Jarvis will walk away with $10,000!

Best of luck to you, Darron, and thanks to everyone that participated in this year’s Pro Football Pick ‘em!
