Pittsfield, Illinois Has Lost a True Friend

This blog comes from the heart. A very good friend of mine and of Pike County, Illinois has passed. His name is Mike Nieber. He ran the Nieber Funeral Home in Pittsfield for many years. And he was one of a kind.

I grew up with Mike from 1st grade on up and he was always a character. I can see him  running through Pittsfield High School on his way to class. He went on to become a very successful funeral home operator in Pittsfield. He was a member of the Pittsfield Fire Department, as was my dad. And when my dad passed away a few years ago, Mike was right there to comfort us, to look after mom and to attend to every detail. Dad had a great send off due to Mike.

And now, way too soon, Mike and dad can be together to talk old times and fire fighting stories. And to show the humor Mike had, we all called him "Digger." That's Mike being Mike.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mike's wife,Jennifer, and two sons, Nicholas at home and Josh and wife Kasey of Saint Peters, Missouri.
