Today marks the 63rd birthday of Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Billy Joel. The New York native became a household name back in 1974 with his song "Piano Man". It's a song that has just about everyone singing at least a line or two when you hear it. For the karaoke fans in Hannibal and Quincy, and there are many, it is one of the favorites to sing. First of all you are not the only singer when one does it because usually the whole audience joins in. That makes it less obvious that the singer is less than "Joel-like" to put it nicely. It's just one of those tunes that everyone knows and definitely is Joel's signature song. Dennis and I played it this morning on Y101 in honor of Billy Joel's birthday and I found myself singing along and "air piano" playing as I heard it. It's a classic and Joel will forever be associated with it. Obviously, it's not the only great song from Joel who has 6 Grammy awards and 23 Grammy nominations. He has sold over 150 million records worldwide but for my money "Piano Man" is his best piece of work.
