National Bacon Day Saturday is August 30

I am going to celebrate all day long. It is the food holiday I have been waiting for!

Bacon's popularity has skyrocketed in the past few years and it is everywhere. But what else has skyrocketed is the price of bacon. So what shall I do, eat more Cap'n Crunch, or keep doing the pork thing. I keep saying to myself "cut back on the pork," but it is so good when cooked right. And some of the recipes I have tried with bacon have always been a hit at our house.

There are a lot of unexpected bacon recipes out there. Have you ever tried the "Ultimate Cured Bacon Recipe," which has cured meat, or the "Maple Cupcake with Milk Chocolate"? How about "Bacon Jam"? I will give you one more, how about "Prunes Wrapped in Bacon"? Your mind can go wild with all the different things you can do with bacon. And that is the fun of it, making something out of bacon that you never thought you could do or even wanted to do, but it is so good.

So go hog wild this weekend with a bacon state of mind. My friends in Pittsfield will.
