From time to time it is always good to step back and take a  look at where you are and where you have been. Having worked 40 years in the crazy business, I did just that the other day. I started backtracking to how I got started in this business and what was I doing before I got my first radio job. And then the job before that and the one before that one. I eventually got to the very first job I ever had.

It involved about 30 minutes of my time each week and I made about $1 doing it each week, or a whopping $52 a year! I was only 10 or 11 years old when I took on, not a paper route, but a TV Guide route, of all things. The TV Guide was huge then and I managed to get about 20 subscribers. Every Thursday after school the package would come with those 20 TV Guides in them.

I'd put my books down and off I would go delivering TV Guides to my customers. It was my first job and I remember it like it was yesterday.

What was your first job?
